Teaching English in Rural China
In remote areas of China it is difficult to find good English teachers. Therefore primary and middle school students often lack interest in English and the opportunity to learn it. In order to change this situation I partited in a volunteer teaching program to teach English in a remote village. The process was not only a challenge but also an opportunity to influence young people and become an essential mentor in their lives.
When I first arrived in the village I encountered many difficulties including language and cultural barriers. However I did not give up and instead worked hard to learn and adapt to the local way of life and customs. With the joint efforts of me and the students my teaching effectiveness gradually improved. I found that using various teaching methods such as games music and stories could better attract students' interest and stimulate their learning enthusiasm. At the end of each lesson I would ask the students to say a sentence in English which could improve their self-confidence and oral expression ability.
After staying in the village for several months I feel very satisfied. The interaction with the students has helped me to better understand their lives and culture and has also deepened my Chinese language proficiency which is beneficial to my future development.
