My name is Yang Liwei. I was born on June 21 1965 in Liaoning Province China. I am a Chinese astronaut and the first person sent into space by the Chinese space program.

I began my career as a pilot in the Chinese air force and later joined the space program in 1998. On October 15 2003 I became the first Chinese person to orbit the Earth aboard the spacecraft Shenzhou 5.

During my 21-hour mission I conducted various scientific experiments and experienced weightlessness for the first time. It was an unforgettable moment in my life.
